Dialogue on the New National Standard | Megaunity Fully Committed to Protecting Welders' Occupational Health

Welding Fumes: The "Invisible Killer" in the Workshop

Welding operations generate fine particulate smoke with particle sizes typically ranging from 0.1 µm to 5 µm, making them difficult to capture. These nearly invisible fumes contain a variety of heavy metal particles and harmful substances, including manganese, chromium, lead, and more.

The hazards of welding fumes are primarily evident in three aspects:

  1. Health risks: Prolonged inhalation of welding fumes can lead to occupational diseases such as pneumoconiosis, manganese poisoning, and lung cancer.
  2. Production losses: Smoke and dust accumulate on equipment, leading to reduced welding precision, increased equipment failure rates, and higher product defect rates.
  3. Environmental pressure: Failure to meet environmental assessment standards may result in penalties and mandatory production shutdowns for corrective measures.

Welding fumes pose numerous hazards, yet prior to this, there were no regulatory restrictions on welding work environments.

New National Standard: Setting Rules for Welding Fume Control

The State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration Committee have released the national standard series GB/T 43917-2024, "Equipment for Collecting and Separating Welding Fumes." This standard has been officially implemented since November 1, 2024. This marks a new milestone, signaling that China's welding fume control efforts have entered a fully regulated phase—where there is now a clear legal framework to follow.

As one of the key participating organizations in drafting this standard, Suzhou Megaunity Air Systems Co., Ltd. has leveraged its years of technical expertise to contribute to the development of the national standard, offering valuable insights and recommendations for the industry's healthy growth. The implementation of this standard will provide crucial technical guidance for safeguarding the health of millions of welders across the country, as well as for protecting the environment.

Megaunity Solution: Tackling the Challenges of Welding Fume Control

As a seasoned enterprise in the field of welding fume control, Megaunity offers a variety of highly effective welding fume management solutions tailored to meet diverse application needs.

1. Workshop-level welding management? — Modular dust collector

Megaunity modular dust removal products allow for flexible configuration based on airflow requirements, and can be installed on prefabricated steel-structure platforms, saving space while ensuring optimal purification performance. These products are widely applicable to dust collection scenarios in large industrial facilities—such as welding and grinding—and are particularly well-suited for high-dust environments like major automotive plants.

2.  Tight on space in your large factory? Need air conditioning? – A Distributed Environmental Control System for High, Open Spaces

For large, high-ceilinged factory spaces, Megaunity has developed a distributed environmental control system, with its core product being a dust-removal and temperature-control unit. The system employs an innovative approach that combines ventilation for dust removal, precise temperature and humidity regulation, and cluster-based deployment. This solution requires minimal investment, consumes low energy, delivers high efficiency, and occupies a small footprint—making it ideally suited for spacious yet tightly constrained large-scale welding workshops.

3. High-span factory buildings have high smoke and dust concentrations, making control challenging? — A Layered Environmental Control System for Large-Scale Spaces

For large-span, high-ceilinged workshops with high dust concentrations, a stratified environmental control system is an ideal choice. Its advanced airflow design and highly efficient ventilation capabilities deliver superior dust removal performance while significantly reducing operational energy consumption. Additionally, the system allows for customized, zone-specific management tailored to the unique dust-generating characteristics of different work areas, enabling independent control in each zone.

4. Welding Robot Fume Collection? — High-Pressure Negative-Pressure All-in-One Dust Collector

The Megaunity High-Pressure Dust Collection Integrated Machine is a highly efficient dust removal device specifically designed for capturing welding fumes from robotic welding systems. It is ideal for industrial environments where welding, cutting, and other production processes generate significant airborne particulates. This system precisely captures fumes at the tip of the robotic welding gun, ensuring that welding smoke is immediately drawn into the dust collector for thorough purification and filtration.

The implementation of the national standard for "Welding Fume Collection and Separation Equipment" provides a scientific benchmark for the green upgrading of China's welding industry. The Megaunity technology team will continue to invest in innovative research and development, helping customers achieve cleaner production environments and more reliable occupational health protection!
